1. Environment

Please run this program package on a computer with MS Windows EXCEL 5.0c OR HIGHER installed.

ATTENTION! This application does not seem to run properly in Microsoft Excel version 5.0a. Please, avoid using it in this version of Microsoft Excel!

2. Objective

The IPCC software for estimating greenhouse gas emissions is a program providing navigational aids through a series of worksheets with a customised menu system. This creates a userfriendly environment for the data input into the Excel worksheets.

Each of the EXCEL Worksheets - Overview and Module 1 to Module 6, is dedicated to a particular methodology for estimating emissions from one economic sector. For each of these modules, a custom menu structure, specific to a particular methodology was implemented.

3. Setup Click to download setup program

  • Right click on Software and choose the option "Save Link As" or "Save Target As". The programme manager "Save As" screen will appear and you must choose into which directory the file should be saved.
  • First Run the "IPCCSW1.exe" and then Run the "setup.bat" file and the software will be installed. It is recommended that you close other software programmes before running setup.

4. Installed files

EXCEL 5.0 Worksheets Overview.xls and Module1 to Module 6 will be copied to this directory. If you are replacing an older version of this software,
Setup > installed files
WARNING:
=========
Please delete all the old software files and the C:\IPCC directory from your hard drive before installing the newer version.
If you do not delete the older files the new program will use the old files instead of the newer ones.
There is no automatic uninstall provided with this software.

5. Program usage

To start the software you can either open Start.xls file located in the directory where the IPCC program was installed or click the "IPCC version 1.1" menu item in Start/Programs.

You will be prompted for the year to be analyzed. Select a year from the drop-down list or type in a new year.

If you type in a new year you will be asked if you would like to use a previous year's data as a template or if you would like to use a blank template.
If you select a previous year - the program will create a directory for that year and copy the worksheets (Overview + Module 1 to 6) from a previous year into the new directory.
If you select Blank sheets - then the program will create a directory for the new year (4 digits) and copy blank modules (Overview + Module 1 to 6) into it.
The Overview worksheet, with the custom menu, will be opened in both cases.

The custom menu in all the worksheets allows the user to navigate to the areas where data input is required.
Context sensitive comments for the menu items appear in the status bar when the user selects each menu item.

The user can choose the appropriate key combinations for keyboard control of the menus.
Alt+key for the Overview worksheet menu
Letter key for the worksheets Module 1 to 6.

6. Recommendations

We recommend not to change the form of the predefined Worksheets Overview.xls and Module1.xls to Module6.xls unless you are very familiar with Excel.
The worksheets of the Workbook (Volume 2, IPCC) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories have been translated to this series of EXCEL worksheets and modules.
